Pros

  • Accessible. This game has been designed from the ground up for players from nine to ninety.
  • Pacing. Using a turn based combat system allows new players to get their bearings more easily and think things through instead of the constant action other MMORPGs may require.
  • Parental controls. Being one of the few MMORPGs to orient itself towards kids, having a way to ensure they're having clean fun is important.
  • PvP. For being a child and family friendly game, Wizard 101 has a surprisingly robust Player vs Player system.

Cons

  • Depth. While Wizard 101 may provide a sizable amount of gameplay options, it still does not come close to a standard MMORPG.
  • PvM variety. Some monsters repeat themselves with a simple palette swap for the area they are in.

Wizard 101 is a fantasy style Massive Multiplayer Role-Playing Game set in a school of witchcraft, where they will use their powers in a turn based combat system to become the best magician they can be. Each player will adventure through a fully 3D world to hone their skills using a multitude of spells from ten separate schools of magic. Aspiring wizards must navigate through multiple worlds to defeat any evil that might lurk within them. However, players can cast spells in style as they are also allowed to customize a house, a pet and of course themselves!

Wizard 101 follows the standard MMORPG layout of using the standard WASD keys for movement, along with a mouse to help interact with the environment. Players have a number of customization options, though they are slightly limited by the fact that this game is geared to be accessible to players of all ages. Combat and player growth are similarly restricted, though this by no means is not a simple game. Battling enemies and other players uses a surprisingly interesting card game system, where the players cards are their spells. Both sides cast in turns until one or the other has been defeated. All of this takes place in a world with solid graphics, effects, and locales.
